Ayup, still alive…
I know I’ve been rather silent of late, and once again I apologize.
We’ve had my brother and his wife visit from Texas (more on that in a later post), my S&W Model 14 arrived (more on that in a later post), we’ve got oodles of Jilly snapshots (ibid), some more zombie movies have arrived and are being processed (ibid) and some more firearms departures and arrivals are due any time now (ibid).
My cold/flu/projectile leprosy appears to have broken, and I have slightly more energy than has been typical of late.
I hope to make up for lost time over the next week.
Is this really Mugwug or has another bored reader of yours just hacked the site to pretend that it’s still alive?
Seems like someone’s “lost interest” lately…
Naw … Mugwug, like most of us living here in the Great White North (unlike those residents of Lotus Land) has succumbed to a case of the
February Blahs
Hey, we get the Blahs too! You try carrying an umbrella around to block out what little daylight there is this time of year. You’ll have the blahs big time. Stupid umbrella is probably the reason my shoulder is bothering me (and now they’re calling for snow…)
Glad to see you back in action, Mugwug.
Yeah, I too suffered from the February blahs for 20 years.
Then I moved to North Carolina.
Glad you’re feeling better Mugwug.
It’s a bit of the February blahs no doubt, but this last month has been absolutely chaotic. Seems like all my time has been spoken for long before I get a chance to allocate any of it.
We’ve applied for and received Jillys Social Insurance Number, not to put her to work but rather to start saving for her education. Contributions now being funneled into an RESP. This was one of those “details” that we’ve been meaning to address for some time, but never seemed to get around to.
We’ve been chasing after tax stuff wtih an eye to getting our money from the guvmint. Yes, a return was certain as I always have my employer take a little extra at source to ensure I’m not in the black at the end of the year (an old habit from working multiple jobs, but one that pays dividends once tax time comes around).
I know the argument against this, we can put the money to better use ourselves than giving it the guvmint piecemeal, but honestly we’re not that organized yet, and it’s nice not to have to worry about it. $50 extra in taxes each paycheque is a small price for that peace of mind right now.
We’ve been sorting out our own debt, and keep hovering on the edge of being debt (mortgage excluded) free, and making extra payments on our mortgage to reap some benefits from the extra little bit pulled off the principle every two weeks.
The last remnants of the cold/flu/whatever have sapped my energy, and when combined with the sporadic weather issues has made my “days on” at work completely exhausting.
I continue to hunt for work locally, and have had a few “good” options appear, but no developments there. I’ll admit that I am now exploring “acceptable” options as I cannot even begin to continue to delude myself that the commute of 200km a day is anywhere near “acceptable”.
The firearms transactions were a little extra hassle on top of everything else, but are working themselves out and I can still convince myself that the collection is becoming a little closer to “optimal”.
I likely should have rolled this comment into a post on it’s own, but it got a little longer than I had anticipated.
Not really a “lost interest” situation, but certainly has felt like I’ve “lost time”, and my internet use has dropped appreciably since other activities have demanded my time.
Good to know you all are still out there and reading however.

Dude, for the same degree of hassle of having your employer yank $50 off your cheque to give an interest free loan to the government(Which is what you’re doing), you can have your bank deduct $50 per paycheque into an RRSP. You pay less tax, get some savings and it’s all good.

Lots of jobs out this way dude…c’mon back, Patrick and I met for coffee last night. The talk was of sushi, range days and high flying mobile adventures a go-go!
Ah Greg, didn’t I just finish saying “I know the arguments against this.“?
I know, I know. Ultimately it’s a lack of discipline on my part, or poor impulse control or some such. But over time I’ve found deductions at source are far more effective than deducations from my account, partricularly when those withdrawls do not directly coincide with the deposits.
Up to this point it has been a case of “never missed if not seen”. I suspect starting this year we’ll be exploring new options, or rather I will be exploring new options.
We all know how I feel about the gummint and it’s tax collectors (present companys spouses excepted, natch).

And as I forgot, Lisa was checking out housing prices in the GVRD the other day, a minor conversation about life in Vancouver etc etc.
Sadly, because I’d really love to move back, the reasons that brought about my move out this way originally still apply. The bulk of my family is here, and while I take their presence for granted while I’m here I sure do miss them when I’m away.
Maybe a few years from now.
