Still not 100% and am headed back into work tonight. Sense of general malaise remains, and I am cheered only by a song that has been stuck in my head since this afternoon;
River of Jordan: (by Peter Yarrow)
I traveled the banks of the River of Jordan
To find where it flows to the sea.
I looked in the eyes of the cold and the hungry
And I saw I was looking at me.
I wanted to know if life had a purpose
And what it all means in the end.
In the silence I listened to voices inside me
And they told me again and again.
The is only one river. There is only one sea.
And it flows through you, and it flows through me.
There is only one people. We are one and the same.
We are all one spirit. We are all one name.
We are the father…
We are one..
If you know why it’s stuck in my head, then you’re likely related to me.

Sorry folks, been feeling generally unwell the last few days. Have left work early two nights running due to flu-like symptoms combined with exhaustion (both bad when behind the wheel).
The Anti-Zombie SKS has been sold. but not yet delivered, with the proceeds (or at least part of them) I’ve found a Smith & Wesson Model #14 in .38 Special that should fit in with my other handguns just fine (this transfer of course needs to go through the Provincial Chief Firearms Officer, so expect a week just for them to stamp “approved” on a transfer between two licenced firearms owners).
Also special ordered some 7.62×25mm ammo for the CZ52. Would you believe the price I was quoted was $19.95 a box? That’s $0.40 a round, a price I’d expect for long gun ammunition more than dinky Tokarev ammo. In any event, unable to source the ammo anywhere else (and having been unable to try the CZ52 out for a year) I sucked it up, told my inner voice to STFU and ordered 5 boxes (officially making 250 rounds of ammo cost approximately half as much as the pistol is worth).
Ok… only have the two days off, and my internal clock is completely fubar. Not quite on a night schedule and definately not on a day schedule. Basically just confused enough to ensure that my first night back is, as always, one completed without the benefit of sleep.

Today represents the absolute end of a project that gave me great joy for a long while. That’s right, my Anti-Zombie rifle has been sold. It sits, all packaged up along with spare furniture, magazines and assorted do-dads, waiting for payment from the buyer before it is entrusted to the people at CanadaPost for delivery.
It was a decision I didn’t take lightly, but the SKS-D had been a project filled with “bling” and experimentation. There a few other rifles I’d rather face the zombocalypse with, but that’s a rather narrow application and I’m dying for a new project for which I lack the funds. Amongst the residents of my gun cabinet the SKS-D has languished the longest, and I can only hope her new owner appreciates her more than I have come to.
There will be another anti-zombie rifle project in the future, likely built up around the VZ58, but it will undoubtedly involve far fewer modifications that the SKS-D saw.
Farewell AZR.MkI, we hardly knew you.

Argh, the age old question…
this versus this.
[Truth be told it’s more a “Little from column A and a little from column B” sorta situation. I plan on getting the full walnut furniture from the one, and adding an extended mag release and muzzle brake from the second. Meh, that’s just the way I roll.]

Well, my brother Piet has done it again, this time posting pics of his Break-Action Rossi in .223.
I’m quickly discovering the natural light in our house is far from optimal when it’s overcast and/or snowing, and I can’t help but feel that I’m falling behind when it comes to the informal show-and-tell exchange we have going on here. I’m also loathe to post sub-par pictures of my boomsticks, just because I’m a little anal about that.
So here then quickly is a semi-passable snap of my Norinco M14. I’ll do my best to get some better pics online today.

Finally reached my days off, and while the “to-do” list appears to have grown a fair bit, I have today to hammer away at it.
In so far as general updates a light may have appeared at the end of the tunnel. I recently had a second interview for a local job (lateral move in so far as income, but improvements in all other areas) and I have my fingers crossed that I’ll get the job. Think positive thoughts out there people, I am hoping that the 401 loses its place as a solid fixture in my life very, very soon.
Some general improvements with the CCTV system, nothing exciting sadly, just general abuse testing and fine tuning. Two UPSs now tacked on to the system (one onto the recording components, the other onto the viewing components) which should carry the system through short term power loss and the frequent micro-outages that seem to plague this area.
I’ve set aside today to spend some time watching and writing about a few of the newer zombie movies I’ve acquired, and hopefully I can clear my errands (boring boring boring) away and tuck myself into some zombie goodness before too much time has passed.
That’s it.

I haven’t even finished work yet, and I’m dreading this.
[After-action note: My drive home was approximately three hours plus this morning. I knew it’d be bad, I spent the night driving around in this muck. I finished my 13 1/4 hour night shift, then grabbed a cup of coffee on the way out of the office and braced myself for an extended drive home.
What kept popping into my mind the entire drive was that my insurance company had just the other day told me I was a “nine star driver”, which is allegedly a good thing, and as such I qualified for their “forgive and forget plan”. A plan whereby my first “at fault” accident does not affect my insurance rates.
Three hours spent thinking “Wouldn’t it be funny if I used that part of my insurance a mere 48 hours after adding it?”]

Sophos has issued a press release dealing with a new variation on the type of spam we can expect to see arriving in our inboxes. Thats right, it’s Professional Killer Death Threat Spam.
No Seriously;

(Sample “Contract Killer Spam” from Sophos.com)
Normally this sort of thing would, at worst, cause me to risk accidentally inhaling my morning coffee due to laughter. However I’ve spent the last few days casually surfing through the Rip-Off Report and was amazed at the number of phishing, advance fee scams and similar efforts that actually seemed to hit the mark.
Are the bulk of us that stupid?
