What would you say if I told you I had installed cameras to watch the perimeter of my house?
Would you think me paranoid?
What if I went on to tell you that the camera feed can be viewed from several locations within the house (and off-site should I explore that option), and is recorded 24/7?
Would you think me crazy?
What if I then told you this entire project cost aproximately $350, requires little or no maintenance effort from me, and has no attached subscription or usage fees?
Tell me what you think are reasonable precautions in this day and age.

Colonel Cooper is dead.
Excellent quote via Les Jones.
“An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.”

PDB stirred up a bit of a flurry over at View from the porch in her post about the school shooting in Montreal titled I ain’t goin’ out like that. The comment was;
“Anon: Keep in mind, this is Canada we’re talking about here. Even if this dude burst into Ecole Polytechnique’s 1911 Gunsmithing 101 class and all the students were holding fully functional sidearms, he still would have taken them all out.
Canadians are soft, docile, toothless creatures indoctrinated from birth that violence never solves anything, and that the best thing to do when the Morlocks come for you is to relax, offer no resistance and let them have their way with you in the hopes that they’ll let you live to see a grief councillor.
To put it mildly, frak that.
Disregarding the two firearms I have in arms length to me at the moment, I can identify at least ten items on and around my desk that I could use to kill an attacker. Hell, I’d rather be armed with a pointy stick and a furious rage than a death ray and a rabbit’s timidity.
Guns, knives, mace, saps, etc., are all tools. Your weapon is holstered ‘twixt your ears.“
He explains his dislike, nay hatred, of our country in his post entitled tempest in a Tim Hortons cup (and in an older entry Patriotism by contrast).
So tell me why you love or hate this country. I’m dying to know, in a soft, docile, toothless sort of way natch.

Yesterday Kimveer Gill entered Dawson College and began a shooting spree that resulted in one fatality and over a dozen seriously wounded.
The details are sketchy, but it appears Gill, armed with a Beretta CX4 Storm, entered the school and began randomly shooting at students until police arrived and ended his rampage in an exchange of gunfire. The media has referenced the shooters blog (hosted at vampirefreaks.com), noting that it has been taken offline (technically incorrect, Gills username “fatality666″ has been deleted, but the blog entries remain online for now - I’ll save you the effort, “teenaged angst” sums it all up).
Whether Gill was licenced to own a firearm has not yet been made public, but the hue and cry against firearms will undoubtedly rise in volume following this cowardly act. In the interim thoughts and prayers for the victims.
