Friday motivational poster, Apparel

Apparel, given the opportunity it is best to face the zombie hordes fully clothed.

Birthday suit does not equal zombie fighting perfection.

Torontos Mayor

Published by Mugwug under Politics

Driving around Toronto half the week I tend to listen to the news more than is good for me. Typically I hear about the most recent shooting, and the news piece is typically ended with the mayor of Toronto calling for a gun ban, yet again. I admit I have to wonder if he drags the same rhetoric out for each incident, or if the media has given up and just credits him with this over and over again.

Out of a sense of morbid curiousity I googled Miller looking for his re-election website (gotta have one, right?) and found Millerformayor.ca. Faster than a speeding cliche, chock-a-block full of heady rhetoric, it’s precisely what you would expect from a politician of Millers calibre (pun intended);

Fluff.

The only entertaining moment surfing this site was when I clicked on “accomplishments” and got an error message akin to “could not be found”. Sadly it loaded just fine the second time I tried.

Ah well, I’m little more than a witness now. It’s up to poor Torontonians to vote this schmuck out of office.

Corporals Francisco Gomez and Jason Warren

Published by Mugwug under General

Canadian Flag half-mastCorporal Francisco Gomez of the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry and Corporal Jason Warren of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) were killed when their Bison was caught in an explosion resulting from an attack by a suicide bomber in a car.

Eight other Canadian soldiers were wounded in the attack, fortunately all are expected to recover from their wounds. A number of Afghan civilians were killed in a later attack on the same convoy.

Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, local mouthpiece for the Taliban, claimed both suicide bombers were Afghans and threatened more suicide attacks and ambushes against coalition and Afghan forces.

Rest in peace gentlemen.

CZ52 Pistol

Published by Mugwug under Firearms

My CZ 52 Pistol

I acquired my CZ52 pistol in the trade for my FrankenGarand and it currently ranks as the least favorite firearm in my little collection. This ranking is through no fault of its own. It has been relegated to this role simply because I had initially meant to trade it away in turn for a Norinco 1911, but retained it until such time as I could try it out at the range.

This has been complicated by the difficulty I’ve encountered sourcing small quantities of 7.62×25mm ammunition locally, and by the fact that even if I had found the ammunition I haven’t made it to the range in almost two months. Still, I am a gun nut and no firearm is going to pass through my hands without me trying it at least once.

Inconspicuous; Keep a low profile, just because they are alive does not make them your friends.

Worth mentioning.

An event filled day yesterday…

Published by Mugwug under General

Ran significantly short on sleep yesterday, another one of those “Ah hell, I’ve gone without sleep before.” days where I regret my words before I’ve finished uttering them.

Family arrived to check out the new digs, taking the tour, socializing and showering us with house warming gifts. A quick two hour nap and then I was off to work for a nice relaxing twelve hour night shift, with a two hour (round trip) commute. Suffice to say on my return home this morning I collapsed into bed lamenting my lost youth, and the ability to go for extended periods without sleep.

It was great to see the family, although our little home never seemed quite so little before. The heat was no big help either.

It’s unfair to single out a single house warming gift, but I’ll do it none the less. Among the gardening supplies and clothes and toys for Jilly was a large rectangular wrapped gift for me. Openning it I found the framed piece pictured below;

Follow the leader by Dick Kramer
“Follow the leader” by Dick Kramer.

Now to say I was taken with this gift is understating things a bit, it already resides above my desk. Browsing Dick Kramers website I think I can see a few other pieces that might find themselves at home in my workshop when I get that project completed.

Published by Mugwug under General

Canadian Flag half-mastCorporal Anthony Boneca of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment was killed in an action against Taliban forces West of Khandahar City on Sunday.

Two other Canadian soldiers were wounded in the same area shortly thereafter.

This was Bonecas second tour in Afghanistan, and he was scheduled to return home next month.

Rest in peace, Corporal Boneca.
