Time is short these days, but I still spend a good deal of my working time thinking about my next firearms project. It seems the most likely new project, is to revisit an old project. Since acquiring the VZ58 I have been a little dissatisfied with the Anti-Zombie SKS-D. At just short of 11lbs it occurs to me I’m getting carbine bang for battle rifle weight. I’ve almost resigned myself to parting with the AZR and making a few minimalist changes to the VZ58 to allow it to serve the same function.

We’ll see how this line of thinking progresses, but I’m open to suggestions for the time being.

Yesterday I received an “attempted delivery” notice in the mail, advising me I had a package, with $30 (CAD) in duties owing, waiting at the post office. I suspected my Danners were back, as I was expecting no other packages with duty owing on them (despite the fact that I had called Danner Tuesday and been told that they were still working on my boots, and to call back Wednesday).

So we attended the post office, and amid the chaos and din I managed to help the nice postal employee by pointing at the box with the big “Danner” logo on the side, and asking “Is it that one?” after she had been scurrying around for 3 or 4 minutes looking for my package.

It was.

Once we got back to the apartment I could control my excitement no more, and slashed open the box to reveal my old boots, but returned to serviceable condition once more.

Now, on to the practical assessment of this service…

Some discussion on the news about the Conservative governments decision not to lower the flag to honour the 4 Canadian Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan last Friday.

Not a lot of time on my hands here, but lets say that as far as I am concerned the flag should be lowered each and every time a Canadian soldier dies in the service of our country. Precious little respect is shown these men and women while they are alive, let’s not skip this simple sign of respect when they’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.

A quick trip to the range on Tuesday with Marc from work. The weather was perfect, and as this was little more than an excuse to get out with the firearms we brought only the Norc M14 and the VZ58.

Some minor problems unexpected encountered with the VZ58 that were a might irritating, but otherwise a entirely satisfactory trip out.

Just another Jilly snapshot for y’all…

16 months in, and while she’s not surfing for anything in particular, she loves banging away on the keyboards of both the computers.

Ok, our schedules are chaotic, our lives a turmoil, our time pretty much spoken for.

Just to add to the confusion and chaos we are now house-hunting. Admittedly we are hunting outside the Toronto sprawl as a quarter of a million dollars just doesn’t really get you in the door on a hovel here, but we’ve high hopes for cities nearby. Truth be told I’ve been unthrilled with living in Toronto for some time, and am anxious to escape the city altogether.

This has, however, eaten up a great deal of time we had (and some time we didn’t have) in so far as dealing with financing, hunting through listings, actually doing a few recces to see if we were house hunting in a sort of urban war zone, and finally sacrificing sleep to actually go out and see some of the possible candidates.

I’m not going to post much more on this until we’ve locked down a few options, and quite frankly until we take possession of the new digs (where ever they end up being located), but I though an explanation for my continued enforced silence was in order.

And no, we’re not buying a mini-van.

…well, not yet anyway.
