More online Zombie goodness…

Published by Mugwug under Zombie Stuff

For those of you that remember the Zombie Infection Simulator (a neat little Java app that shows the exponential growth of a theoretical zombie outbreak) by Kevan Davis (who also brought us Urban Dead) now comes Zombie 4 an interactive version of the Zombie Infection Simulator.

This time YOU have the ability to stop the spread of the infection, slam the door on the undead and save civilization from certain ruin.

Well? Get on it, we’re all waiting.

Movie: “Dead and Breakfast” (2004)

Published by Mugwug under Zombie Movie Reviews

Dead and Breakfast (2004) directed by Matthew Leutwyler.
(MF Title: “Nothing like a zombie ho-down..”)
Starring Ever Carradine, Portia de Rossi, David Carradine, Bianca Lawson and Erik Palladino.
Zombie Film Rating: 1 skull1 skull1 skullno skullno skull

Now thats one heavily armed hall of records manager!

Overview: A group of friends are driving to a wedding when they become lost and find themselves in the town of Lovelock. They are directed to the local Bed and Breakfast where their sleep is interupted first by the discovery of the murdered body of the chef in the kitchen, followed immediately by the owner suffering a heart attack and dying.

The local sheriff finds (not suprisingly) these deaths suspicious, and tells the travellers they must remain in town until his investigation is complete. Of course the accidental disturbance of a mysterious artefact by one of the travellers causes him to be possessed by an evil spirit that begins turning the entire towns population into zombies.

Will these cartographically challenged youths survive?

Spammers on no-doze…

Over the last 24 hours I have received an unprecedented deluge of comment spam. I stopped counting at 350, and by then had already made efforts to close the comments on any posts older than one month (something I should have done ages ago, but the comment spam problem really hadn’t been a big issue up until now).

This time the spam came in using three different URLs per comment in an half-hearted effort to cloak their identity. The first is in the URL field which pointed to one of their online gambling, viagra or what have you sites. The second was in the text of the message, which pointed to legitimate blogs or blog entries, and the third was a hyperlink immediately following the second which pointed at another spam site.

I’ll end up experimenting with some more blacklist packages at work tonight (when I’ve finished the long overdue zombie reviews I have - Thats five movies pending right now), and hopefully the closed comments will keep the spam to tolerable levels until I get our defences sorted out.

Good times…

Range pron….

Published by Mugwug under Firearms

Going through the multiple directories of photos on the hard drive I came across this snap from the most recent range trip, Lisa is a great photographer and I especially liked the fact that the Canadian Gun Nutz logo is plainly visible on my backwards hat.

Me, my hat and the M14

Just wanted to share…

I am a criminal.

Published by Mugwug under Firearms

As my loyal readers will remember I (not so) recently built the FrankenGarand from parts. As per our federal regulations I had the rifle inspected by an approved verifier and sent the verifiers report in to the Firearms Center along with my licence renewal (that was two months ago).

You see the Breda receiver I built the rifle on is registered with the firearms registry as a “receiver only” not a complete and functional firearm. Technically this means I no longer possess a registration certificate for this rifle, and am a criminal. I have called the firearms center every two weeks for the past two months in an effort to establish the status of this “change of registration”, spending an average of 20 minutes on hold (per call) and being bounced from department to department. Each call has ended with the “officer” telling me to try back in a few weeks.

I received my new firearms licence yesterday (50 days after I applied, and 42 days after they cashed my cheque), but still there was no sign of my new registration certificate for the FrankenGarand. I heaved a long suffering sigh, grabbed my paperwork folder and a pen and settled in to wait on hold for extended periods of time. I wasn’t to be disappointed, I was transferred through three departments finally getting someone who promised to look for the report, and who would call me back.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if I’m still a criminal at the end of the day.

Welcoming another member of the family…

Published by Mugwug under General

Mom and CarolinaMy mother and step-father Chris recently returned from China with a new addition to the family, my new sister Carolina has joined the clan and I’m certain she’ll be a welcomed addition. This is the second adoption for Mom and Chris, the first you will no doubt recall resulted in the arrival of my sister Rosalind quite some time back.

I’m certain that they’re swamped right now, but I’m hoping to sneak out their way and impose myself on them for the after-action report.

Carolina, Welcome to Canada!

Nice day for a range trip….

Published by Mugwug under Firearms

Lisa and I decided to scoot out to the range this morning for quick visit, while grabbing the associated supplies I was reminded that I’m running critically low on ammo, and after digging around for my last box of .308 Win, and a few boxes of my remaining stash of .223 Rem we loaded the car, dropped Jillian at daycare and fled the city. The goal was to quickly throw a few rounds downrange to complete my entries for the Analog Kids September e-postal match, and to give Lisa a little refresher time (as she hasn’t been out to the range since before Jillian was born).

Lisa with the AR15

Lisa insisted on shooting the “ducks”, and as a consequence has now taken part in her first postal match. I’m afraid I have to admit that the scores were far from perfect. The Tasco scope on my M14 has finally packed it in (with the elevation and windage knobs serving little purpose beyond the decorative) and entirely failing to hit the duck once with the AR15.

Still, it was good to get out to the range and get some shooting in.

September Rifle E-postal match….

Published by Mugwug under Firearms

The Analog Kid has posted the rifle e-postal match for september, with a sort of “looters” theme. This is one I don’t intend to miss, and I’ll extend a personal challenge to my fellow armed Canadians to take part and share your results here.

So guys, grab yer SHTF rifle of choice, head to the range and lets see how we do.
