Just a few changes….

Published by Mugwug at 06:08:25 under General

You may have noticed a slight change in the appearance of the blog….

My old blog lacked any fixed width values, and the formatting problems were irritating me to no end. I had cludged together a solution using HTML tables (not so elegant I admit), but coinciding with this effort I upgraded to Wordpress Ver 1.5.

The upgrade (as is to be expected) solved a few problems I’d been having, and introduced a few new ones. In the end I gave up trying to modify the old format, removed the table hack, canibalized an existing theme and hoped for the best.

I’m hoping this format suffices for a while, as it’s been more work than I was prepared to commit.

In unrelated news Mike is back up and running after a series of technical failures on the part of the hosting service (yep, same host as me) a few months back, glad to see he finally found the time to muck around with his site again.

Welcome back Mike!

Nothing in my experience with web design should take only two installs to get working. My last run with MT took four hours. Part of the reason I took my time restoring the page was because I didn’t want to deal with the headaches of installing the bLog program. Who knew?

I set the new Malfeus up while waiting for “World of Warcraft” to patch.

I mentioned it before, but all things considered I am a big fan of WP over MT. Much smaller install, much easier to install, much easier to use, and all sorts of support. Additionally, and for what it’s worth my comment spam has been minimal since switching over (although that may just be a delay with the appropriate bots trying to find me…although the referrer logs show the MT spambots have finally ceased their incessant slamming of my server).

Good to see you back, hope your site stays more stable this time (I was going to mention that since the last big crash I’ve had an uptime monitor pinging the server every 30 minutes, downtime has dropped to next to nothing… fingers crossed).

Finally my morning reading is starting to shape up…. I’ve been forced to read random blogs to fill some of my “coffee” time, and it’s hit and miss.
