Oh, you knew it was coming….

Published by Mugwug at 10:30:41 under Baby Blogging

Oh yeah... you knew this was comingSince her birth we’ve been snapping photos of Jillian like mad, alot of them are of dubious quality, as Jillian is fairly animated and rarely sits still for the perfect photo. We typically get two to three tries before she tires of the bright flashing lights and her mood takes a downward turn.

I’ve received some flak about my daughter and firearms both sharing space in my home. Most of this flak has originated from the uninformed (as these sort of criticisms often do) and I thought I’d address this issue quickly here.

I am a firearms enthusiast, and this will not change in the foreseeable future.

The firearms are safely under lock and key, and I am the only person in possession of those keys (anyone who thinks a baby can pick a locked handleset, two barrel locks, trigger locks, then drag a 25 pound case of ammunition down off a 6 foot high shelf, unlock it and then load a magazine which is also stored six feet above the ground behind said locks is delusional). Suffice to say the firearms are inaccesible to both Lisa and Jillian.

Pay attention to this photo folks… that’s the only time Jillian’s going to handle a firearm until she’s older….

You could have at least put some compact grips and a compensator on that weapon for her!
You’re just going to scare all her boyfriends shitless, aren’t you? “Hey Jillian, how about we take your new boyfriend out to the range and show him how loud Daddy’s new weapon is?”

    Hey Graham!

Come on now, it’s a single stack pistol, not like I stuck here with the Beretta now is it?

Hehe…boyfriends… probably the sole reason I still haven’t sold that Mossberg 500 off, a nice big tactical type shotgun has got to be the best birth control known to man, or at the very least the best engagement expediter….

And WHY NOT?!?! My kid’s already got a rifle though he much prefers shooting the 9mm and the .40 these days!! There sure as hell are a lot of “uninformed” people out there…then again, this is Canada!!

I don’t seem to have had much success posting on your blog (likely my Firefox settings) but will try one last time.

Cute picture … what does your mum think of it ;-)

Hmmm, seemed to work that time…. I don’t think Moms seen this pic yet, we’re doing another run of digital prints, and I’ll have to be sure to include this one….

Patrick: Which rifle? Just out of curiousity….

That’s a very disturbing picture. I understand the message that you are trying to say but it is my worse nightmare to see my young daughter holding my firearms. However, it has made me think how I will secure my firearms and ammo in the future. My firearms are secure but I need to store my ammo in a more secure area. Nice pistol by the way.

I got Anthony a Savage Arms .22 Bolt-Action rifle. I was planning on gettin him the Semi-Auto version but they were all out at Lever. Just as well though, it’s a nice plinker. Almost no recoil…at least according to Dan.

  9. Erikon 24 Feb 2005 at 16:20:15

Dan: Sorry brother, I don’t see the image as disturbing at all. That’s exactly my point, she’s holding an inert piece of metal, no different than any other object. It’s merely peoples bias that makes the image “unsettling”, as we assume all sorts of things into that picture.

Take it from me, there’s no such thing as a loaded firearm in my residence, period. And you’re damn skippy the one I used for that photo was checked, rechecked and triple checked just to set my mind at ease….

(actually a close look at the photo shows the magwell is empty)

Patrick: Nice rifle.. how long ago did you pick that up?

I know what that look on her face means, “What!? This isn’t a Para! Why am I touching some Swiss paperweight?”

  11. Erikon 24 Feb 2005 at 20:07:28

Mike: You’re absolutely right…. in point of fact I just traded the Sig P220 to some guy on CGN for another M305. Should be shipping it off in a few days.

  12. Patrickon 25 Feb 2005 at 05:29:01

Picked up the rifle for the kid back in september, 2003. What’s in your armoury these days?

  13. Erikon 25 Feb 2005 at 06:38:13

Cool, my armoury? Been the same for a while,

    Sig P220
    Beretta 92F
    Norc M14S
    Norc SKS-D
    AR15 (Mutt)
    Longbranch No.4 Mk.I
    Springfield M1
    Breda M1 (in pieces)
    Mossberg 500

    You?

  14. Mikeon 25 Feb 2005 at 17:20:20

    An M305? Stock or modified?

  15. Erikon 25 Feb 2005 at 17:23:40

Just kidding Mike… you know I’d never get rid of the Sig…I’d sell the Beretta long before the Sig walked out the door. I was tempted though… frankly I think one M14s is enough (for now).

  16. Mikeon 25 Feb 2005 at 21:56:24

Heh. You got me. Only because I hear little about the Sig and much about how much you’ve enjoyed kitting up the M305.

I just wish this ATT stuff would clear up.

  17. Erikon 25 Feb 2005 at 23:37:22

Holy crap…STILL no ATT? What the hell???

Ok I have an idea…we’ll just transfer the Norc AR and the Para over to me, and keep them over here, and any time you want to go shooting just give me a call and we’ll use my ATT, hows that sound?

    Riiiiigggghhhtt….

  18. Mikeon 26 Feb 2005 at 18:44:35

    Nope, still nuthin’.

I figure I’ll get it just in time for it to expire again.

  19. Erikon 26 Feb 2005 at 19:15:46

I don’t think so Mike, this year I got one good for three years. Seems they do the one year for your first membership year, and then a three year from then on (or they just decided to start issuing three year ATTs as they’re less headache).

Don’t sweat the photo. I staged a photo last year with Meghan appearing to be mowing the lawn. My grandfather saw it and blew a gasket. His rant about me being a lazy SOB for making my at the time three year old daughter mow the lawn.

Yes, you are one sick puppy. Made me laugh as I kinda have that same humour…
