The “Toten Korps”, combat units composed of undead SS who caused havoc among allied units during the last days of the war, as they were difficult to control often attacking German units he, as their commanding officer, was ordered to load them into a ship and to await orders once underway. Weeks passed with no orders, and so he scuttled the ship off the island and stayed in voluntary exile.

I hate my range on weekends. It’s crowded, it’s social and it’s murder getting a cease fire. Ok so I don’t “hate” it, but it’s not conducive to trouble shooting a technical problem either.
Today I linked up with Ian for our semi-annual coffee and social activity, and we went to my range. My sole intention on this trip was to try out the red dot sight on the Project SKS. I was foiled in this, as first the scope loosened off, then when that was fixed the Millett Scout Mount loosened off, and I figured the problem couldn’t be solved short of using copious quantities of LocTite (of course that kinda defeats the purpose, as I need to remove the mount to clean the gas tube…grrrrr….gonna have to stew on this problem for a bit, see if I can’t work out a solution).
In the end I gave up, removed the mount and we spent a little time enjoying the shooting with the iron sights (at the very least we confirmed that the previous mods were still working just dandy). I’m sure I can sort out the mount problem, but the proper field test will have to wait for another day.

“Oasis of the Zombies” (1983) Directed by Jesus Franco and Marius Lesoeur.
Starring: Manuel Gélin, France Lomay, Jeff Montgomery, Myriam Landson, Eric Viellard and Caroline Audret.
(MF Title: “Damn greedy Nazi zombies…..”)
Zombie Film Rating:

Overview: An English university student receives word that his father has died in North Africa. While going through his fathers personal effects he discovers a journal documenting his wartime activities. It seems that his father was the sole survivor of a unit that had ambushed a German convoy in the desert in 1943, a convoy carrying gold. During a fierce battle his wounded father stumbled away from the battlefield, leaving it littered with bodies and a fortune in gold.
He discusses this with his friends and they decide to mount an expedition to recover the lost gold, and make themselves rich in the process. Travelling across the desert they discover the oasis, and the zombified soldiers that guard it to this day killing all who trespass in their domain.
It’s no longer a question of “will they be rich”, but rather “will they survive”.

How I missed this one I’ll never know, but came I across this guys site while surfing and had to give my head a few shakes, then a few more. What seems to have triggered some interest (over at CGN in particular) was a rant he threw up (literally and figuratively) about those serving in the armed forces not being worthy of our respect.
There are more rants, rather nonsensical and filled with “teenage angst” about women being generally useless and not loving him, and one rant in particular where he denies knowing anything about Maddox’s “Best Page in the Universe” (which is funny, because the first thought that crossed my mind was “Look, it’s a Maddox rip-off!”).
Just an excerpt, I couldn’t resist… I’m thinking of a expression that includes the word “whorehouse” and the phrase “fist full of fifties”….Anyone?
…Not one person emailed me to take me up on my Valentine’s Day offer of coffee. Are you women that superficial? I know that some of you live near me, so why didn’t you email me? Way to judge me without even meeting me, you stupid RETARDS. So what if I have a few extra pounds, I’VE BEEN TOLD I HAVE A FRICKIN’ HEART OF GOLD. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited my website just to read my thoughts and ponderings, so I’m obviously an attractive guy on the inside. I’ve received so many compliments from my fans that I can’t even post them all. People everywhere love my work. Male Canadians adore me! *I’m* going places, and YOU idiots have the nerve to completely ignore me? Well, YOUR LOSS….

Since her birth we’ve been snapping photos of Jillian like mad, alot of them are of dubious quality, as Jillian is fairly animated and rarely sits still for the perfect photo. We typically get two to three tries before she tires of the bright flashing lights and her mood takes a downward turn.
I’ve received some flak about my daughter and firearms both sharing space in my home. Most of this flak has originated from the uninformed (as these sort of criticisms often do) and I thought I’d address this issue quickly here.
I am a firearms enthusiast, and this will not change in the foreseeable future.
The firearms are safely under lock and key, and I am the only person in possession of those keys (anyone who thinks a baby can pick a locked handleset, two barrel locks, trigger locks, then drag a 25 pound case of ammunition down off a 6 foot high shelf, unlock it and then load a magazine which is also stored six feet above the ground behind said locks is delusional). Suffice to say the firearms are inaccesible to both Lisa and Jillian.
Pay attention to this photo folks… that’s the only time Jillian’s going to handle a firearm until she’s older….

“Junk” (2000) Directed by Atsushi Muroga.
Starring: Nobuyuki Asano, Osamu Ebara, Tate Gouta, Miwa Yanagizawa and Natsuki Ozawa.
(MF Title: “Double cross of the living undead zombies from the grave”)
Zombie Film Rating:

Overview: A gang of thieves knocks over a local jewelry store, then arranges to meet with a mob boss at an abandoned military facility to fence the goods. Unbeknownst to them a secret military experiment has gone horribly wrong at this facility, and they will have to survive not only a double cross by the mob but the legions of the undead hiding in the shadows.
Fortunately, for all concerned, a small (and man do I mean “small”) team has been dispatched by the military to ensure the destruction of the facility, of course one of the members of the military team is a doctor formerly assigned to this experiment, coincidentally his dead girlfriend has somehow become the uber-zombie of legend…
What does all this mean? Largely incomprehensible (and I am NOT kidding) zombie fun…that’s what.

Journalist Hunter S. Thompson dies of self inflicted gunshot wound in his home. (Source: CNN)
“There he goes, one of Gods own prototypes, a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production, too weird to live, too rare to die.”
There are enough retrospectives of Hunter S. Thompson being written today by people more qualified than myself. Instead I’ll just say I was a fan of his writing, he personified a little of the chaos, adventure and eccentricity that I’d like to see in my own life.
The world is now short one gun toting, substance abusing rebel..
Goodbye Dr. Thompson.

I am a “pet person”. I’ve always felt that animals were more straight forward about their feelings and intentions than humans, and it’s hard not to like them for it. When Lisa and I began dating I was introduced to her two cats (Tiggy and Blue). It was a package deal, and we all got used to each other as time went on. Tiggy is the quiet cat, venturing out occasionally for food and affection, and blue is the high maintenance cat that needs constant affirmation (He is the feline version of a supermodel…and unfortunately he knows it).
Since Jillians arrival Blue’s early morning diatribes have had a predictable domino effect. Blue wakes Jillian, Jillian wakes Lisa, and the noise of everyone waking up eventually rouses Erik (I’ve always been a fairly heavy sleeper). We’ve put up with this formula for the last three months hoping that Blue would accept Jillians presence and ease off a bit.
We have finally thrown in the towel. Yesterday, with a heavy heart and a trunk load of guilt I drove Blue to Lisas work where he was handed over to his new owner. Someone who’s household is slightly less populated than ours, and where he will be less often punished for just being himself.
I already miss that little bastard.
