A good day at the range….

Published by Mugwug at 16:09:59 under Firearms

Wow...the M14 rocks!Finally had an opportunity to drag the M14S to the range, put it through its paces and give a try at properly zeroing the scope. Initially it was shooting almost a foot to the right, the scope was easily adjusted to bring the rounds in a nice consistant group. The weather was a little too cold to spend the extra time to practice at 100 yards, but I’ll return once the final series of modifications have been made to the rifle.

Also featured on this trip were a few “abnormal” targets, the most noteworthy being a can of Spam in a symbolic attack on the bots that attacked my website so regularly (pics will be posted in the near future).

This visit was of course marked by all sorts of cold, in fact it took Mike and myself 45 minutes to open the padlock on the range gates (which involved alot of walking, some anti-freeze wiper fluid and finally my trusty zippo before it decided to function properly).

    Yay! I’m eagerly awaiting your spam carnage pics.

    OK, I’ll bite: WTF is written on your ear covers?

    “Zombie Gore”, why do you ask?

    Because I was too lazy to enhance the photo and the “Gore” bit looked suspiciously like “Greg”. As I assume that it is all about me, plus have a burning paranoia, I wanted to make sure that you weren’t dissing me on the sly.

    Hehe, actually I was lying… the markings on the side of the muffs reads;

    Visitors GRGC - Do not take away” or something along those lines, they’re the general purpose earmuffs left at the range. Seems in the rush to get out I had left my muffs at home, and the earplugs were not keeping my ears warm, so I threw the visitor muffs on.

    I’m intrigued to find out you think I’d write a message to you on my earmuffs though….might be an idea for the next range trip, secret messages in the photos…

    I found that little conversation amusing. It’s not a question of whether you’re paranoid. It’s whether you’re paranoid enough.

    By the by Erik, I think that new 7.62×39mm we got is a new kind of dirty. It took three hours of scraping to clean that SKS. That’s including the time it took me to remember how to break it down all the way.

    PPS: That military-grade CLP works. Finally got to give it a real test.

    Irik;

    Hey girlie boy; what’s this? After all this time you are still firing “supported”. And, have we reached the two or three hundred markers yet?

    On the positive side, you get points for shooting in the cold.

    Norm!

    Truth be told I’ve only tried the M14 at 50 yards so far, still setting the new scope up (it turns out it was dialed all the way to the right when I bought it -used- so I had a hell of a time figuring out where the rounds were going even at 50).

    Only had enough ammo to get the scope set at 50, next trip will be 100 yards. But thats as far as I’m gonna get to shoot as the range only goes back 100 yards… am looking at other local ranges to see if I can find a longer one, but for now thats it.
