72 Hour Emergency Kit – Mk.II

The “Bug out bags” are still a work in progress. I’m not going to be spending a fortune on these, but the initial “luggage” has been replaced with individual bags for each member of the family.

Our 72 hour Emergency Kit

There is no specific emergency these are being prepared for. They are just meant to ensure that we have the essentials for a number of days before anyone becomes hungry, thirsty or cold.

The focus has been on food and water, and so there are concentrated rations, freeze dried foods, immediately consumable meals (MREs) and high sugar snacks (chocolate etc) in each bag. Also a priority are chemical water treatment options, portable water filtration devices and emergency water rations.

Still needing to be added to these bags are clothing for each individual, at least one novel/book per bag.

Here then is the most recent inventory of items and bag by bag breakdown of our gear;

Additions/Improvements:

Medical / First Aid Kit A proper medical kit is needed, not just to extend the ability beyond the treatment of scrapes and scratches, but common over the counter medication (imodium, aspirin, ibuprofin, antacid etc). Whether more involved medical supplies are needed is being discussed with Piet.

Clothing I’ve added a zippered sweater to each bag, but at a minimum spare socks and underwear should be in each bag, preferably a change of clothes as well.
