I’ve worked in the private security sector for the better part of 20 years. At this point it’s hard to see any of the stuff we do as more than a “wank” with paperwork attached, hardly an optimal point of view for someone in a senior position.
Now that’s not to say that I wasn’t doing the job, if I stopped doing things at work merely because I thought they were stupid I’d have been almost entirely inactive for the past fifteen years.
In any event, I took a job with a local technology outfit doing cable, phone and internet installations. I’m in class and tagging along with an experienced technician at this point, but at least the polyester/cotton ratio has improved. I’ve been forced to redirect my discretionary spending almost entirely to the toys and tools needed for the new gig, but new shiny toys hardly seems like a bad thing, ya know?
For now I’m enjoying the honeymoon period.
