Telco Progress

Published by at 20:17:33 under Telco Distribution

I’m almost at the point where I can move the main telco drop to the new distribution system, as soon as my RJ11 connectors and crimper arrive I can wire all the components together and see if things work. In the meantime I’m re-running all the telephone wire in the house and replacing it with Cat5.

new and improved telco distribution

For those that are even remotely curious things will work like this. Telephone service is fed through the DSL splitter and then into the telephone hub as two seperate lines (one data and one POTS (plain old telephone system) eliminating the need for those pesky DSL filters.

It should result in a cleaner signal for the DSL and it will certainly be less visually offensive than the original stuff.

Well, that certainly looks much cleaner and functional than the old ball of spaghetti that preceded it.

At least it’ll look ‘clean’ until you actually wire in the all the branches … LOL!!

Leave it as is. The outside world is a nuisance to deal with – less contact is better.

You ain’t just whistling Dixie… The irony is that the CATV distribution stuff is going to be mounted directly below this arrangement. I’ve already got a mess of spaghetti coming down the walls with just the coax run over there and duplicate runs of Cat5 laid out ready to go.

Mind you it’ll be a nice improvement over the current CATV system which has huge loops of coax (in anticipation of being relocated) hung over any projection to hand.

    More photos to follow…stand by!

What, maybe I should velcro it to something?
