Music? What Music should I have?

Published by at 20:18:44 under General

Music has been conspicuously absent from my routine for a while now. I listen to the radio sure, but my car was entirely absent of tapes or CDs, we’ve no stereo in the house (aside from a handful of MP3s I’ve got on the PS3) and most of our CDs were still unpacked (2 1/2 years later) in the basement.

Then I upgraded my cellphone (with accumulated points) to a Phone/Quasi-Ipod with 1Gig of storage, shortly followed by the vehicle replacement which comes with a stock stereo that has a USB connection for a memory stick. So now I have to populate 8Gig with appropriate music.

A quick introduction to torrents by my father and suddenly 8Gig is seeming like not nearly enough room.

If you had 8Gig to fill what would you put on there?

As it stands I have discographies for the following:

  • The Police / Sting
  • The Clash
  • Mighty Mighty Bosstones
  • Reel Big Fish
  • Goldfinger
  • Me First and the Gimme Gimmies
  • Save Ferris
  • Less than Jake
  • Got a theme going there, no?

At your advanced age should you be considering skanking? It’d probably be hard on your poor old knees. Maybe some Yanii, or John Tesh would be more suitable for a father with your responsibilites.

I’ve been into the back catalog of such artists as Jay-Z and Dr. Dre lately. Not your cup of tea I’m thinking.

You have to have Murray Head in there too. One night in Bangkok is a must have…I’m listening to it now as I goof off from a 5 hour study session where I haven’t left my chair.

Theodore: Yeah, not dancing… I need the horns, need the happy angry music. Plain old angry music is dangerous for my driving, and plain old happy music makes me want to drown things.

I think it’s not so much my cup of tea either, but then that’s the joy of music…something for everyone.

Greg: Ah yes, I considered the strange “gotta have its”, may still turn this into more of a collection rather than a limited discography. I’m already starting to cull less entertaining albums.

Mike: Tat-U, I thought their limited appeal was confined to their videos, wasn’t it?

    Look into

    The Gypsy Kings

    The Pogues

Dead Milkmen (Bitchin’ Camaro! and Stan)

    DEVO

    David Bowie

Good suggestions Thomas, I did forget to mention that the Pogues discography should have been included on my list.

The others are good food for thought!

Ok, what you have to do is ….

get dumped by a girl name Lorelli (sic)
Get really drunk. (on $2 Sherri)
Drop acid. (mushrooms can be substituted if not readily available)
and fill your entire 8GB with the aforementioned song by the Pogues. (yeah, I know, you can only put it on once but if I’m to trigger a flashback, I need to be specific)

    Just for old times sake.

For new ska, check out the Planet Smashers. I was WAAY into them about 10 years ago. Out of Montreal. I can go dig in my collection for their stuff, but it’s packed in the basement too. Yeah Torrent. Is it ironic or stupid that we spend most of our time illegally downloading albums we already own, and are too lazy to go find, and wait while it rips?

I thought it wasn’t illegal if you already owned the music.
I own or have owned almost all the music on my IPOD, I’m just too lazy to rip it,
or dig the tape out of a box.
