Passchendaele – A Canadian Movie
Saw the film last night. More love and less mud than I’d expected, some schlock but not in quantities sufficient to put me off. Equal distribution between home front and front line.

Canadian history put on film is never going to get a thumbs down from me. Go see the film.
[Edited to add] I’ve been told this gives a lukewarm impression of the film. This is not the case. I enjoyed the film, but am still mulling it over.
Aw, that’s no way to treat an Enfield!
Better an Enfield than a Ross! LOL!!

Kind of makes you glad to NOT be there.
For my money, the trenches of WW1 were the most horrible form of warfare.
I don’t know if you can still find it, but years ago I read a book called “eye deep in hell”; it was a compilation of the diaries of various men who served there.

You have time to go to a movie but not to blog?
I’ll probably pick it up on DVD, as a good history flick always appeals…except my wife advises me that I’m to treat history movies like porn: She doesn’t want to watch it with me or even hear my opinions about it! I apparently tend to point out errors, omissions and outright lies in them.
I hope they start making more Canadian history flicks. I’d love to see a live action treatment of the Batoche and Red River Rebellions. Few people know his name, but if they can find a really dark, scary, quiet and intense guy to play Gabriel Dumont, it’d make the whole movie rock.
OK, let’s see the generator!
You’ve got me curious.
That’s no zombie!
No, but he might turn into one for the sequel….
“Paschendaele II: The Revenege!”
No… that link doesn’t actually go anywhere.
