Hell, I’d have kept it.
A Bulgarian Army Officer attempted to smuggle a Panzer IV out of the country and was caught by the secret service. Collectors would pay a small fortune for the World War II era tank, and I’m not too shocked, I’d personally love to have a Panzer parked on my front lawn, whether I’d put it on blocks to drive the neighbors nuts remains to be seen.
What does kinda shock me here is that this was his second kick at the can, having already shipped a tank over the border. Uh, now I’m no customs agent but doesn’t a multi-ton armored behemoth with a big f*ck-off gun sticking out the front attract some sort of attention? Or did he just drive it over claiming it was the newest sport-ute on the market?

Wow, that’s shocking.
You’d think anything with a 88mm canon would be noticed.
But then again if it had a Ford logo and a “My kid’s a honor student” sticker it would fit right in down here.
Piet … as you recall, our local tank has no Ford logo … and the canon never made it across the border, either … http://www.kwsurplus.com/tank.html
I love that tank…….
Can’t afford to feed it Diesel or I guess I’d take a matching set. I like the idea of having one on blocks in the front yard. Even better with the engine covers open and the engine in parts all over the lawn like ornaments. Maybe use the crankshaft for a mailbox post.
BTW Looks like I’ll be wussing out on the postal match because of time and the holidays but if I do enter it’ll be posted on my blog. I swear someday I’ll enter and do all the back matches just for fun.

Yeah, I’ll admit my first thought was of KW surplus when I saw the article.
Still think it would be cool to have a tank on my lawn.
Apparently you can make tanks road-legal in the UK.
Thomas, it is called biodiesel, get it at your local Burger King or WaffleHouse.
If I remember right, back during the Persian Gulf some guy tried the same with a T-72, but was caught. He was also caught putting AK’s in the door panels of 5-ton trucks.
The lesson here, well known but worth repeating, is that you always play the big, one time score: Don’t ever do the same thing more than once in your criminal endeavours.
As for the rest of it, you’d be amazed what you can smuggle across borders. This…this is nothing! It’s a tank! It’s just scrap metal comrade! It’s worthless!
Mugwug … with that postage stamp you call a front lawn, it would have to be a very small tank indeed
However, perhaps Santa will be good to you … http://www.milweb.net/classifieds/class2.php?type=1
Ho, ho, ho!!
Damn! Some of the Armored cars are only about $6,000-7,000 Canadian. I guess shipping from the UK would cost a wee bit, no?
More if sent by UPS no doubt.
