VZ58 Gun Pron

Published by at 08:39:37 under Firearms,Project: VZ58

It’s been a little while since I played around with our new digital camera, and so here for your enjoyment are some pictures of the VZ58 wearing it’s tan furniture.

VZ58

I’m still not 100% on the tan furniture, it is a vast improvement over the horrific standard faux-wood stock it came with, and I’d prefer to stay away from black furniture (as I’m seriously considering restoring the Norinco M14 to all-black), but no other colors appeal to me.

VZ58

I’m thinking that I should just go ahead and order real wood furniture for the rifle and be done with it. There are no attachments I want to add to this rifle, no plans for optics or tacti-cool accessories. It’s my primary anti-zombie rifle, and I think it’s just fine in it’s “bling-less” configuration.

I could be wrong however, any thoughts?

I like your choice to avoid the tac stuff, Anything more than an optic is playing dress up. I once met a guy who called it “Tactical Tommy Gear” and thought it was like girls dressing up dolls. I wouldn’t go that far but I do think that some of the weapons held even by professionals are overdone. I see footage of soldiers in Iraq and think “Where’s the can opener and the corkscrew?”

I have always said “You own some of the sexiest rifles”, this isn’t one of them. It seems “Cheesy” to me when people put “Bling” on a ugly rifle. There was a scope on the AK for about a month before I realized how silly it looked.
The Vz is perfect just the way it is.
I know it shoots good, and is as hardy as an SKS or AK, if you add anything, you’ll just be adding parts that aren’t as tough as the rifle.
If I owned it, the only thing I might add is an insignia on the stock (The blank spot begs for something).
    How about a nice sling?
thous are some of the biggest 5 round mags I’ve ever seen..:)

Hey, guy … missed you at Pumpkinfest, but KD took some pictures for you … http://www.tgw.on.ca/kd/2007pump … by next year Jilly should be a perfect age for enjoying the parade.

Hope that chores list is much shorter now ;-)

I hate you. As I am a starving student and will be until I finish law school in four long years, I couldn’t afford the bullets for that thing, let alone the gun itself. I have to be content with just snuggling my Glock and SKS.

When I’m a lawyer earning millions off of the suffering of others, I’m going to have a collection that will make you so jealous…except I know they’ll end up prohibiting all the cool stuff and you’ll have your prohib grandfather stuff and I’ll be allowed to own a single shot .22 Cooey and nuthing else.

Thomas: I’d like to take the moral high ground when it comes to firearms “bling”, but my early efforts at modifications revolved almost entirely around add-ons and shiny bits of kit attached to the firearms.

I found that while the added features improved the LCF (look cool factor) of the rifle, they often did very little for functionality, and made them heavy as hell (my anti-zombie sks is a prime example weighing in at 11 pounds unloaded).

I’m trending back towards minimalist when it comes to these things, seeking to address problems I have, not problems I might have.

Piet: Oh on the list is a sling, no question. As far as useful items go that is one that makes the list. The question there is do I go for tacti-cool (single point sling) or standard sling to serve as an aid to shooting.

Going to take a little playing around to see what’s what.

I like your idea about some markings on the rifle however. Any thoughts on what sort of insignia?

Dad: Hehe, a little too much running around to make it to pumpkinfest, we’ll go next year. We did grab a halloween costume for Jilly however, am looking forward to the trick’r'treating as she’ll no doubt enjoy it more this year than last.

Are you guys putting on a show this year?

Greg: Don’t be hating. If it’s any consolation at all I can hardly afford to shoot my boomsticks these days, and unless it’s 556x45mm or 762x39mm it ain’t going to the range.

Hopefully there will be some changes there with reloading, and Piets help. But we’ll see how that develops.

Greg: You may be hating now, but in five years only Lawyers will be able to afford guns. Besides if you have an SKS and a Glock, you’ve already well on your way to a nice collection.
And take it easy on the Cooey, some people around here learned how to shoot with one..:)

Erik: As far as an “Insignia”, there are so many options. How about a lightning bolt and a rifle crossed with “živá mrtvola, živoucí mrtvola” written around it?
Oh, and how’d the chores go this weekend?

“Any thoughts on what sort of insignia?”

    Biohazard- of course!

  8. Thomason 21 Oct 2007 at 17:22:36

Oh and I also have been guilty of overblinging it. The Ruger 10-22 begs for at least a stock mod, and you can change the barrel to carbon fiber by removing only two screws, and volquartsen makesfactoymatchtriggergroupsandstocksandtheresfoldingstocksand…

Whoops, the memory is sending me into overdrive.

    “Don’t be hating.”

    Keeps me warm at night.

“…in five years only Lawyers will be able to afford guns.”

I guess when I’m filling out my application to law school, “Cuz I wanna own more guns!” would be the right response?

  10. Mugwugon 22 Oct 2007 at 05:08:06

Piet: Chores didn’t go as planned, made some headway on the basement but got sidetracked by a Jilly night at moms and a visit from an old buddy from Toronto. Still plugging away at it however.

Thomas: Duh… you’re right of course, a biohazard symbol is entirely correct!

Greg: You could go with “Cuz I wanna own more guns” but I suspect you’d use a sneakier example like “Because gun ownership is such a problem” which would be assumed to mean you’re opposed to it, but which actually means you’re having problems acquiring more guns.

I wouild love to find on of these rifles myself, but haven’t much luck. I would go with wood forend, it won’t melt on you.

  12. Gregon 23 Oct 2007 at 05:23:30

Don’t kid yourself. My only answer that I’ve been giving to people, especially lawyers, who ask “Why do you want to go to law school?” is to reply “Because it will allow me to make massive piles of money off of the suffering of others. I intend to whore myself to the law until I have enough money to buy and sell enough people to let me do what I really want to do. Maybe teach. Maybe lie on the beach. I have no illusions of changing the world or bringing justice forth. I will bring you justice…at $710 per hour.”

Without exception, every lawyer has looked around for witnesses, then told me that I will have zero problem in the practice of law.

    Hehe, mercenary sensibilities?

    Who’d a thunk it?

  14. Thomason 23 Oct 2007 at 20:43:00

    Michael.

If you’re stateside, it looks like CZ USA is importing them or will be.

  15. Michaelon 24 Oct 2007 at 13:32:25

Yeah, I am down in Georgia and that is good to know. It looks better than the typical AK.

Buy yourself some decent black walnut blanks and put some quality hardwood on it. Quilted maple would also look pretty sweet….
