I am not going to be able to make it to the range today as I’ve too much administrivia to take care of around the house. I figured I’d be mucking around with the firearms none the less (overdue to go through the cabinet and detail strip everything anyway) so I took the opportunity this morning, during a half hour lull in activity, to snap a few pics of my pride and joy, the 9mmP Sig P220.

I wasn’t aware that Wikipedia had a list of zombie movies available. While hardly definitive it does list a few I don’t have (and many I do).
Time for some more shopping I s’pose.
[Edited to add: For the record, I own 75 of the movies on that list and am missing the remaining 54]

James Rummel has an excellent post up where he talks about the two gun salute (where a shooter fires two pistols at once) made famous by almost every action movie to hit the screen in the last few years. Go give it a read, I’ll wait here.
Done? Good.
Now naturally I’ve tried this style of shooting myself (twice in fact) and the results were precisely as you’d expect. The first time was with my brother in Texas, using my Sig P220 and his Ruger P89 (both in 9mmP) shooting at a DPS silhouette target 7 yards away. The results spoke for themselves, for over 20 rounds expended there were precious few holes in that target (I cannot remember precisely as this goes back 5 years or so).
I remember well my feelings during that shoot. I was anxious about control of the firearms as I was firing at least one without truly aiming it at any given time, I was also concerned that should I experience a malfunction I would have two loaded handguns to sort out and no free hand to do it with. To sum up, I was uncomfortable and while this may have detracted from my accuracy it certainly didn’t sell me on the merit of this style of shooting.
Also tried that day was the homie-g style (pistol canted 90 degrees counter-clockwise) which made it feel like I was going to lose my grip on the pistol for each shot.
Who knew movie stuff doesn’t work in real life?
[Edited to add: Just for Mike the pic from The Rundown was added.]

A wee bit of a storm blew through town last night taking the power out at our little home right in the middle of a visit by a local contractor about some work we want done. The loss of power was no big deal, we’re well equipped for this sort of thing and after distributing a few battery powered flourescent lights and starting a movie up on the laptop the house retired as if nothing was happening. The silence broken only by the occasional beep from one of the UPSs to remind us that the grid was down.
An interesting test, the surveillance system UPS kept the system online for the expected amount of time, but once the UPS started emitting the “imminent shutdown” beep I raced over to shut the computer down and powering up the old CRT attached to the computer was enough of a drain to kill the UPS. Lesson learned, I’ll upgrade that monitor to an LCD as soon as I get a chance.
Also noted were a few minor leaks in the basement (no doubt associated with the rain being thrown into unusual places by the wind), this means I’ll undoubtedly have to go into the pseudo-finished walls down there when we do the reno’s in an effort to locate the sources of these leaks (leaks are unlikely to get better over time).
Sadly, I was too tired to enjoy the blackout. Falling asleep on the couch while waiting for the power to come back on.

Took today as another “me” day, grabbed my gear and headed for the range. I’m woefully short on targets having exhausted the majority of my (once) massive supply of 8 1/2″x11″ toner-intensive and employer supplied rifle targets, being left with only a few of the so-so pistol targets. Fortunately when I arrived at the range some kind soul had left behind (on the target table) a few home-made Figure 12 (Herman the German) targets, which were quickly pressed into service.
Out with me were the AR15 and the VZ58 (Cheap ammo rifles step forward please). Shooting done at 50 yards (the new range bag is perfect by the way, everything I needed at hand!).

This sort of thing has always confused me. Thankfully I ran across this post at the Revolver Libertarian Alliance which offers a series of links clarifying the whole thing.
Ya know, I think I actually have a handle on it now. Thanks!
