Smith and Wesson – Model 14
It arrived on Monday, while I was trying to sleep in advance of my first night back to work.

The pistol and several hundred rounds of ammunition handed to me by generic deliveryperson who seemed entirely nonplussed with the task of handing a rather heavy box to a sleepy, confused looking guy in his underwear. Acquired with the proceeds from the sale of the Anti-Zombie rifle, the Model 14 is my first revolver, and bears more than a passing resemblance to the first handgun I ever fired.
I’ve long wanted to add a revolver to my little collection, but never seemed to come across a “basic” revolver. This is certainly basic. A “K” frame Smith and Wesson, chambered for .38 Special and with a 6″ barrel, it is an almost entirely generic example of a “service” style revolver.
I’ve not had it out to the range yet, so no real impressions of consequence.
Today is International Disadvantaged People’s Day.
Please send an encouraging message to a retarded friend…just as I’ve done.
I don’t care if you lick windows, eat paint chips, take the
short bus or occasionally crap yourself…You hang in there sunshine,
You’re frickin special.
Uh, does this mean I can park in the handicapped spots at the mall?
Only today er I mean yesterday. Sorry, I should have informed you earlier.
Hey, on your poll, why a Mossberg 500 instead of the 590?
Why the 500 instead of a 590?
Simple, I own a 500, not a 590. Optimally I’d prefer to have a 590, and maybe this is something I can rectify in the wheeling and dealing I’m keeping myself involved in, but for the time being the 590 is not a real option.
As for IDPD, why the hell didn’t you give me advance notice?
Heya Mug, sorry I am so late to the party, but congrats anyway.
I’ve got a 14-4 with those exact grips even.
The pistol with a 6in bbl is a real piece of cake at the range. I use it as one step up from a 22 MKII for new shooters.
And if it is like mine, it is more accurate than just about anyone who has held it.
Congrats again.
Hey Phil, no worries on the delay, I’ve been conscipuously absent for the entire month of February.
I love this handgun, and cannot wait to see how she does at the range (or me for that matter).
Of course I’m certain I’ll blather on at great length when I finally take her out!
was wondering if you know where I can buy a 6 inch barrel for this same revolver?thanks,& keep up the work on this page, great job
I have a Model 14-7. Everyone who fires it remarks on its accuracy and clean trigger-pull. Mine has polymer grips and a full lug. I can find almost no information about Model 17s, but wish I could buy another. Like my Jugo SKS and Springfield Armory XD, it’s just a good, solid gun that cost way less than comparable guns. I’m glad I found it.
Hey! — Smith&Wesson is now making the Model 14 available again. Six-inch barrel with partial lug, blued, .38 calibre. I’m not sure if .38-Special is available, but the website below doesn’t indicate anything about .38-Special.

I went to a gun show the other day. A guy was selling a Model 14-4, with the needle hammer, blued, wooden grips. Wanted $450. Stupidly, I didn’t buy it as I’m trying to convince myself to buy a new, classic Model 29.
