…Eighteen-year old Hayder Kadhim launched his campaign Wednesday afternoon in Montreal, demanding tighter limits on handguns, a ban on assault rifles, and the preservation of the national gun registry…

I’m only surpised it took this long.
..handguns should only be allowed in controlled locations such as artillery clubs and shooting ranges..
Handguns are restricted weapons, restricted weapons are only permitted to be discharged on ranges approved by the CFO. Assault rifles are prohibited weapons, and are possessed by only a few gun owners, he likely means “semi-automatic rifles” but that covers a lot of ground, and you’ll pardon my reluctance to let a neophyte decide what is “evil” and what is not. The gun registry is not being dismantled, it’s scope is being rolled back to concentrate on restricted and prohibited weapons.
Victim activists mean well, but being a victim of crime hardly makes one an expert on the topic.
“..Of people who are killed with weapons, about a third of those are with firearms, and two thirds are with knives..” – Stockwell Day
Carefull Stockwell, that knife registry is right around the corner.
If what you are saying is true, it would seem that legislating common sense may not be possible. I sure hope not, we’ve spent so much time on it.
I noted that he also wants “artillery clubs” formed. Now, asking this guy’s opinion on firearms laws because he got shot is like seeking to base driving laws based on the opinion of a guy who got run over by a car, but if he’s suggesting that we need private artillery impact ranges, I’m all over that like a fat kid on a smartie! Can a minivan with a standard ball hitch tow a 105mm?
Ah, but being a victim gives one an incredible advantage these days! Your opponent would be too scared of the backlash of directly addressing your attack, imagine if Harper or Day were to publicly say, “Being shot doesn’t make you an expert on gun control.” As much as I’d vote for them for the balls of it, they’d be dead from the flood of mail calling them insensitive tyrants.
As much as I’d vote for them for the balls of it, they’d be dead from the flood of mail calling them insensitive tyrants.
I may now consider forming a political party: The Insensitive Tyrant Party. Wanna be the Minister of “Saying the shit you need to hear”?
I am so in!
Does TITP make a good acronym, though?
Artillery clubs? Hot damn! Who’s up for a little Practical Howitzer?
Mind you, feeding a 155mm is probably hideously expensive.
You have to wonder what the hell is wrong with this weenie that he isn’t calling for CCW. Personally, if I’d lived through something like that, there’s nothing more in the world I’d want more than to be able to return fire the next time.
I’m not going to do the politically incorrect and horribly insensitive thing and raise the old 9mm vs .45 debate in this context…
Who know’s? Maybe he was shot by a 105 Howitzer? Gangs these days are packing bigger and better heat. Maybe in light of his brilliant comment we should lobby for the right to have a gun battery for home defence… I guess I need a bigger holster!
Please post this and circulate it everywhere, oh voters in Toronto:
It’s Not Just Guns
So David Miller “loathes gunsâ€, and would put an outright ban on them were he to be re-elected. Unable to take meaningful action against illegal firearms, his intent must be to antagonize law-abiding owners instead. Concerned voters can only wonder which legally obtained firearms David Miller finds so repulsive; are they single-shot plinking rifles, perhaps, or target pistols that require no less than two exams, 5 character references and a complete background check to obtain?
This is not just about firearms. Mr. Miller is plainly telling the citizens of this city that no matter how licensed or law-abiding they may be, he surely knows better than anyone else, and to him we are simply untrustworthy – be it regarding firearms, councilors’ salary increases, or any other municipal affair, for that matter. Toronto’s citizens deserve better, and it is high time we return this pervasive distrust in spades, come Election Day.
Artillery Club? Check with the Gunners in Afghanistan ! Their FOO called in ‘Fire for effect’ when the range finder read ….. are you ready for this? 78 meters to the enemy position.
Target destroyed; no friendlies injured.
The M777, best gun in the world, fired by the most professional gunners; it doesn’t get any better.
