AIArms has produced modern manufactured SMLEs (No.4 Mk.I) in .308Win, and these are now coming into Canada for distribution. I find these rifles almost entirely unresistable, and if I had the disposable income I’d be buying one today.
Well, formal announcement from my employer that our little company has been purchased by a bigger company. Short term changes, we are assured, will be nominal. That certainly hasn’t stopped the rumour mill and numerous night shift discussions as to the long term fate of us poor grunts.
Honestly I’m viewing the entire exercise with a degree of interest. I’ll rant and rave as my cavalier attitude is proven unwise.
As I said in the last post, the paint (truck bed liner at that!) began to come off the stock of my VZ58. I blame my prep work, I know I rushed that job knowing that the truck bed liner would hide most faults. Ah well, I really wasn’t happy with “tactical black” anyway.
Went with tan for a little variety in the cabinet, excuse the poor photography, I’ve yet to find my tripod amongst the unpacked items.
We’ve had no shortage of projects around here, but there has been a noted absence of anything firearms related so I dug through the “gun stuff” boxes and recovered a few projects under consideration. First and foremost was the speculative modification of the VZ58 into the Anti-Zombie Rifle Mk.II.
Doing away with most of the “bling” modifications undertaken with the SKS this project would concentrate more on the minor mods needed to make the VZ58 more “practical tactical”. Three modifications suggest themselves. Sling, flashlight and optics.
After repainting the stock I found myself with an entire set of spare furniture for the rifle. Sadly the paint has started to peel in places (likely a combination of bad surface prep and gun oil), so I’ll be tackling the stock once more. As long as I’m working on it however I decided to add a forestock flashlight mount (as opposed to the barrel clamp variety found on the SKS).
Something along these lines, utilizing an extra himanockov flashlight I ordered for abuse testing while putting the AZR Mk.I together.
I’ve heard the show referred to many times, but it was only recently while reading Grifters blog that I found you could check it out online. I am, of course, referring to Spaced, the brit-com starring Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson and Nick Frost (Simon and Nick you’ll remember from Shaun of the Dead).
Suffice to say I’m addicted, and have been glued to youtube for the better part of the last 24 hours watching as much of this series as I can find. I’ve enjoyed this so much, I’ll be ordering the DVDs shortly.
Don’t take my word for it, give the first episode a peek.
