I need your help.

Published by under General

Along with the change in themes I did a little housekeeping, some experimentation with assorted plugins and finally added two that you’ll notice fairly quickly.

The first is Votio (scroll halfway down) a plugin that allows visitors to vote on posts contained within a specific category. This has been set up for the zombie movie reviews only, and allows visitors to offer their own vote on the movies reviewed. I’m hoping to re-evaluate some of my ratings as I slowly rewrite the older reviews, and I would very much enjoy some feedback as to what you think of the films.

Second is the addition of the Democracy plugin, allowing easy polling. Count on a wide variety of polls coming down the pipe, and forget about those annoying pop-ups that came with the old free-polling crud.

I’m still tweaking things, so sound off if you encounter a specific issue with either of the new plugins, or with anything at all really.

Mild asthetic changes…

Published by under General

Ok, been experimenting with a new theme for an hour or so. It’s a bit of a change, but holds the formatting of the older theme pretty well. More importantly this one lacks the specific formatting issues the old theme had with different browsers (you Firefox users deserve an apology, the old links and categories branching looked hideous).

Thoughts? Concerns? Comments?

Ok, cat out of bag time I s’pose…

Published by under House Stuff

I’m fit to bursting with excitement so I’ll let the cat out of the bag. Lisa and I have taken the leap and purchased a home (technically we’ve purchased 1/3 of a home, the bank has purchased the other 2/3s, but lets not split hairs here).

Our new home?

There’s some time before closing (which ironically looks like it’ll conflict with my ZombieCon’06 trip, murphys law) and a myriad of details to take care of, but we’re excited about building up some equity instead of lining the pockets of our landlords.

I’m loathe to post too many details (see the previous post), but suffice to say it’s about 100km away from Toronto. Which is a bit of a shame, as I was looking forward to voting against Mayor Miller. Ah well…

The Internet, wannabe lawyers and noisy stalkers.

The Analog Kid over at Random Nuclear Strikes has a net-looney challenging the information in his whois entry, alleging some sort of fraud on his part.

This is one of the problems with hosting your blog on your own domain as opposed to using a generic blogging service like blogger or livejournal where you’re just another anonymous blogger. You have to provide contact information to your registrar when you start up your domain, which typically includes your name, address, telephone number and email.

AKs registrar has consistently failed to update his information, a situation I can relate to. For three years I was hosted with generic uber-cheap hosting Inc. I used my home address and real name. At the time I was single, and quite frankly was unconcerned that someone might pay me a visit to voice their displeasure with something I said online. When I moved back to Toronto from Vancouver I dropped my host an email asking that the information be updated to reflect my changed physical address, phone number and email address. Nothing happened. A year went by, and I renewed the domain, again asking that the information be updated, nothing happened. With the third renewal I sent yet another email, you guessed it, asking them to change the info. In keeping with what was now an established tradition, nothing happened.
