Oh yeah, there was a range trip in there somewhere.
A quick trip to the range on Tuesday with Marc from work. The weather was perfect, and as this was little more than an excuse to get out with the firearms we brought only the Norc M14 and the VZ58.

Some minor problems unexpected encountered with the VZ58 that were a might irritating, but otherwise a entirely satisfactory trip out.
Oh the long and the short of the mishaps with the VZ58 were limited to the occasional escape of the lower handguard. An event I found strange as with the paint on it I assumed it would, in fact, be a tighter fit than before.
I’ll be spending a little time experimenting with the spare (non-modified) furniture set I have at home trying to determine if this is a problem with the rifle or the furniture itself. As far as the range day went I just shimmed the front handguard with some micropore tape from the first aid kit in the trunk of my car, and the problem failed to reappear for the remainder of the trip.
Went through just short of 100 rounds, 20 through the M14 and another 80 through the VZ58 (On a budget here, my ammo replenishment program has been stalled indefinately at this point and my mearge “Hail mary” stocks are running low.)
The trip was only slightly marred by my absent-mindedly forgetting to bring my range tool kit, making sight adjustment on the VZ58 (one of the planned goals on this trip) near impossible.
Next time we’re planning on importing a professional photographer for some proper snaps. Uh, yes, that’s you Gary.
Man, those targets look like a pain in the butt! I’m assuming that you push them down to the end for photo shoots, then drag them back to five feet past the line for your actual shots?

How low are you on ammo? I’ve got carploads of 7.62×39 I’m not using. School, coming baby and work have me so busy, the idea of a range trip is far, far away. I even realized this week that my ATT has expired. Ooops.
If you want, I’ll check my stocks and ship you out a couple hundred rounds of 7.62×39 with the explicit provision that they are to be used to keep introducing new shooters as you seem to be doing.
Hehe…
Actually thats the 50 yard line, an embarassing distance to be shooting the M14 at.
I appreciate the offer, I’m actually ok for 762×39 and 556×45 (about 600 and 400 rounds left of each respectively), but am desperately short of the big .30 stuff…(.308Win, .30-06, .303 British), and as I’ve been unable to afford a bulk surplus purchase I end up buying factory loads at a tremendous cost…
This was actually one of the driving considerations with the trade of the FrankenGarand for the VZ58. 762×39mm is still dirt cheap, and I can barely afford to feed my M14 right now, not to mention a second 762×51mm rifle.
I understand being busy however, I’m hardly getting to the range at all these days. House hunting, work and Jilly keep us plenty occupied. Who knew?
(I do still try to get some hoplophile missionary work in though…)
Although, if you do find yourself at the range, a PCDHFC patch would be a welcomed suprise in the mail.

Will do amigo!
Yeah I’ll be there next time to do some shooting of my own! You want me to stand in front right?

Gary, you do not have to hold the targets, I’ve told you that before. Should we require “muppet target stands” there are no shortage of guys from work we could invite along.
